My Church

Social Security

I have a can of worms, and it is about to be opened.  I will try and be brief with the background story.

I met my wife in Church during the Summer of 1991.  Nicholas, her oldsest son, was 3.  His biological Father was never part of his life, and was not on the birth certificate.

My wife and I married February 1992. Because he had the same last name as his Mother, we legally changed his last name to match his Mother's.  I never adopted Nick.  I am his Father.  Everyone knows me as his Father..and changing the name was legal, so we did.  Well...after a long bout with Aids, my wife passed away in 1994.

Now...I never adopted Nick legally, because we naively thought the court would not allow me too...because Cindy was infected with HIV.  In those days and times...it was similar to being infected with the Plague.

Well...10 years later....Nick is now 16 and able to get a job.  Turns out his social security card name.....was never changed.  It really appears that it is going to be a hassle...because they want proof of his old real name.  I have none.  I have his new birth certificate...but not his old one.  I technically have nothing to prove his former name.  It is quite the situation...and I know it will not be easy with social security.  I think....

Well, I will keep you all posted.  Maybe because I expect a hassle...it will be easy.  But....I truly expect self fulfilling prophecy....I believe it will be bad...it is the paper pushing Governament of today....so it will be bad.  Sigh...

Poor Nick....he was set to start his new job and all he needed was his social security card.  I really fumbled this one...or at least feel I am responsible.

My life's been basically bland today. I haven't been up to much these days, but pfft. I haven't gotten much done recently. I can't be bothered with anything these days. I've pretty much been doing nothing worth mentioning.
