I am not really sure what the John Lennon song implies. But it plays in Jersey during Christmas more than any other Christmas song.
Of course, I am studying the lyrics currently and like an good Minister preparing a sermon...I will have to go back and see what is happening in Lennons life at the time and the influences of the world surrounding him.
Iam starting at the point where I think........perhaps a war has just ended...so we can have a Happy Christmas and a happy New Year. I would much rather be studying Scripture but this song today intrigues me. I would like to find the true meaning of this song. I'm personally leaning on the fact that it is sarcasm. Something I should understand because Public Speaking and Sarcasm are things I excel. (trust me, proverbs is helping to control my sarcasm more and more)
You know..Lennon always responded to questions with hidden sarcasting questions.
Reporter, “John, do you believe in God and Jesus“?
John, “Well, Do you think that maybe I am a God like Jesus?“
One Closig thought. While I was building bicycles at work this song was playing. Just as Yoko Ono began to sing...another bike builder flew across the room and turned the volume down. “I can't listen to her. It just goes to show that Love (between John and Yoko) is not only blind....but it is deaf too.) It thought it was the most hilariously (perhaps true) statement I have ever heard.
I do however enjoy John's music. But I was with a group of friends and we discussed Benjamin Franklin. He had become a very wealthy man by printing his “Poor Man's Almanac”. So wealthy he no longer had money to worry about. So....if money was never an obstacle, what would you do with your life?” John...his contribution are some very bad drawings and photographs of him and Yoko naked..... Ben Franklin did a little bit more than that..........
What do you my friends all think? Maybe I am missing something infinitely easy.
John Lennon: Happy Christmas (War is Over)
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas War is over
For weak and for strong If you want it
For rich and the poor ones War is over
The world is so wrong Now
And so Happy Christmas War is over
For black and for white If you want it
For yellow and red ones War is over
Let's stop all the fight Now
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas War is over
And what have we done If you want it
Another year over War is over
And a new one just begun Now
And so Happy Christmas War is over
I hope you have fun If you want it
The near and the dear one War is over
The old and the young Now
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over if you want it
War is over now
